going back to my former schools be it pri/sec or jc, makes me reminisce a little. in a good way. the memories formed during my time in those places all come to mind. i have no doubt that God called me to those schools and those experiences within to shape my inner person. i'm so thankful for them.

and it's nice to see the present [in the respective schools] getting along in their own way, in what will be unique experiences.

'we hope that we may honour bring, and heaven ever bless our school...'

'God save our land and heaven bless...'

may these schools continue to serve as a place of blessing for many more to come.

[food for thought... ]
one of the things i learnt in the course of the past two years, is that we shouldn't over-compare new experiences with the past. there definitely is a place for comparisons in order to learn from our past mistakes and improve from there. but you can't compare down to every aspect a new school to your previous one, a new class to your previous one, perhaps even a new church to your previous one. it just won't be exactly the same. there will always be plus points and minus points. what we should do, then, is to appreciate and embrace the good in the new, acknowledge what is lacking, and work to change that. if you can't change your circumstance, change yourself and/or create the change yourself.

in my case i periodically got frustrated thinking about how things were... needless to say that didn't solve the problem. it was easy to see how things should be by pitting current situations against past situations. often the current paled in comparison to the new because of the angle from which i was seeing things. but once you see the silver lining in the present, no matter how little silver there may be, you begin to gain a more positive perspective to things. sometimes the silver lining may be that you are aware of how bad things are that you know what needs to be changed. even that is a start. attitude makes a lot of difference.

in closing, this is something i learnt recently... 'do you seek to serve or be served?'

“...the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” – Matthew 20:28 (NIV)
